I have a family member who is deaf so I was exposed to
the field of audiology
as a child. I love my job because I
enjoy meeting new and interesting people and because no
two hearing losses are the same. I feel patients are more accepting
of hearing aids today because the technology is much better and the aids are smaller. I have been working
in audiology for ten years now and I still love it.

Since befriending a profoundly deaf classmate, I have been fascinated with hearing and how hearing loss impacts lives
and relationships. In high school, I learned American Sign Language, which has helped me communicate with deaf patients today. With these experiences, I decided audiology was a perfect career match. Not only did I discover my interest in studying ears and hearing, I also found that
I
love interacting with people. Audiology is simply the skill
I gained to fulfill my desire to help others.

I love the challenge of working with the hearing impaired
and helping to improve their hearing health. As an audiologist
I enjoy assisting the physician to diagnosis and treat patients ensuring patient’s live better lives. The field of audiology has made significant improvements because of the Doctorial Program. This program will increase the direct care the hearing impaired receives because it requires a stronger commitment by the audiologist.

I chose to become an Audiologist because I wanted to help the hearing impaired function at their highest level possible. Hearing aids today are more sophisticated and more discrete, additionally, I am confident the advances in technology will only continue to improve and help patients hear better.

I’ve always wanted to work directly with people in a helping profession. Audiology allows me to use a variety of traits: social, technical and analytical, while helping people at the same time. With the transition to the doctoral program, audiologists are better prepared for all aspects of their scope of practice. Additionally, advances in technology are amazing, making hearing aids smaller, stronger and more effective. The research is promising and the prospects for better hearing are very exciting.
